Tidewater – Organic Seafood Seasoning & Boil Blend

A Coastal Classic, Reimagined with Clean Ingredients

Tidewater is our organic seafood seasoning inspired by the classic flavors of a Carolina crab boil. Handed down from Outer Banks locals known as “High-Tiders,” this blend is perfect for traditional seafood boils, seafood salads, or simply seasoning cooked shrimp and white fish.

Tidewater leans savory and herbaceous – organic celery leads the blend – with just a subtle hint of cayenne to round things out. Nothing overpowering, just enough to bring out the best in your seafood.

Tried four so far, and each one’s been amazing!

I love to cook and having these in the cabinet has been exciting. I used Tidewater liberally on fresh flounder with olive oil. It was wonderful without being overpowering. Just that and fresh lemon for a 5 star simple dinner.

Makes fresh seafood even better

Tidewater is our new Go-to seafood seasoning. We love fresh seafood but many seasonings overpower the taste. Tidewater is a refreshing blend that enhances the flavor of fish, scallops, shrimp or lobster. We’ve tried many but Tidewater is the one! And the customer service at Flavor Seed is second to none!

Great cajun seasoning that works on everything and isn't overly salty

Haven't actually used this for a seafood boil yet, but it's become a go to seasoning on chicken and pasta and it works really well in both. The flavor is a nice cajun style blend with a good amount of depth from the herbs and spices and a gentle heat from the cayenne that builds without being overwhelming. What stands out most is that it doesn't have that overly salty punch that a lot of seafood and cajun seasonings tend to have, the low sodium approach lets the actual spice mix shine instead. The resealable pouch is a practical touch and the organic ingredients are a bonus, the value for the quality is genuinely solid.

Dat’s Money dude

We’ve made Shrimp and Grits a handful of times with tidewater, and it makes for an absolutely amazing meal. It boosts the shrimp flavor to the next level, but also it’s nice not getting all the toxins from something like Old Bay or other seafood seasonings. Tidewater is money!

Tasty

I probably cook something with shrimp about once a week and mix things up with various fish like salmon, tilapia, tuna and cod frequently. So far I've only used this to season shrimp but I can say it definitely added something nice there. In my opinion better than Old Bay is a pretty bold claim for any seafood seasoning to make, and I might have been happy to give Tidewater 5 stars otherwise, or if they had lived up to their claim, but if you aim for the king you better not miss.

Great Seasoning for All Types of Seafood

The first thing I noticed when I opened the jar was the seasoning's wonderful, herbal aroma and its fine ground texture, which is what I like for seafood. Although salt is the second ingredient, I didn't find it to be overly salty, but celery is definitely a dominant flavor. I tried it on prawns first, turned out great, and on thick tilapia fillets coated in flour and panko and pan fried, fantastic! Next time I will use slightly less seasoning because a little of this goes a long way, it is very flavorful. I haven't tried a low country boil with it yet but I know this would be perfect for it.

Similar and Organic version of old bay

I've been looking for an organic version of old bay since I only try to eat organic and non-GMO foods. This is very similar in ingredients but has more celery flavor I think. Boosts flavor of seafood, rice, and other recipes. I would consider getting this kind again but I'd prefer a bulk package next time!

Balanced Flavor

It offers a good flavor balance to seafood and other types of food. It tastes clean and healthy. It's important for me that spices are good quality and not full of chemicals, I recommend this product.

Delicious

It's just the right seasoning for seafood, very well mixed but not too strong to cover other ingredients. It smells very herbal, which I like a lot. I would use less fresh herb to balance out the overall taste.

It's SO good!

Boils are not popular in my part of the country, but I do love grilling and frying seafood. I've also used several other Flavor Seed seasonings, and have never been disappointed. I was excited to test their organic seafood seasoning, it's so good, even just a pinch straight out of the bottle. You get the splendid aroma of the celery, coriander, onion and other ingredients just by taking the lid off. I used it over tuna steaks basted with fresh lemon juice and virgin olive oil before sprinkling generously, my tuna steaks tasted amazingly! It is manufactured in the USA, and they donate a portion of their earnings to non-profit organizations.

Great Stuff!

Highly versatile seasoning for seafood as well as chicken, tasty but not spicy. Used in a slow cooker low country boil recipe in place of Old Bay as suggested and is quite enjoyable. Also sprinkle liberally on salmon and tilapia for nice flavor when baked or grilled. Grilled chicken with this seasoning is a big hit in our family too. High celery seed content makes for a unique flavor on all meats, recommend!

Real herbs

The first thing I noticed was the texture of this was just like rubbed sage, which means it's literally made by finely shredding actual leaves, herbs and ingredients instead of just adding flavoring and preservatives to salt. It resulted in a highly flavorful seasoning that I used by doing an EVOO rub then sprinkling this onto my salmon filets to soak it in for a while before grilling. The flavor is fresh, light and does a slow build. Really delicious.

Tasty, but mild

We made fish cakes with this seasoning, like crab cakes. We normally use Old Bay seasoning. Since this company claims to be similar, we decided to try it, it is similar but not equivalent. It made tasty fish cakes, but they lacked the heated spiciness of Old Bay. If you want to use this in a crab or lobster boil, add a little cayenne to up the spice factor a bit. I do recommend this though.

My new favorite seafood seasoning

You'd better be pretty confident when you say you're better than Old Bay in your description. I was a little skeptical but after trying this, it's probably my new favorite seasoning for seafood. It's all organic, and has no salt, which is definitely a plus for those who need to watch sodium intake. I've tried this on shrimp, scallops, and some potatoes and it tasted great on all. I haven't done this with a low country boil yet, but I can't wait to try it.

When Old Bay lite meets Celery....

Based on the description and reviews, I was expecting yet another Old Bay seasoning. This isn't Old Bay, it has hints of it, but I do not like Old Bay, and I do like this though. It says 40mg of sodium per serving but it definitely tastes like there's more but it blends in well. If you don't like celery or celery salt, avoid this as it definitely has strong celery tones. The taste floats between hints of Old Bay and almost a sage that could be used in stuffings even. I've tried it on eggs, chicken, beef and in a few clear soups, and it is a very unique mashup.

wonderfully tasty blend of seasoning that is far more versatile than just using on seafood

While this blend is promoted as being for seafood, I've found that it's far more versatile than just seafood. I've tried this on tuna, and the organic celery flavor and coriander does shine through even with the sometimes heavy taste of the tuna. I've also tried this on mashed potatoes, pasta and even popcorn, each time the flavors, especially the celery, are noticeable. I also like the just-right amount of heat the seasoning brings, paprika, black pepper and cayenne are all on the list but even combined the heat is still on the mild side. I look forward to trying this on chicken, pork, veggies, rice, stuffing, any kind of food that needs some extra kick.

Great flavor

I was looking for another seafood seasoning outside of Old Bay. This seasoning isn't as spicy as Old Bay, but it does have a kick to it. I love that it is in a glass bottle. It is a good blend for great flavor.

smells good and not spicy

I am not good in the kitchen, but I usually try different kinds of seasonings. I use this Tidewater organic seafood seasoning with chicken, simply applied as directed. Not sure what I expected, but I like it, it is not spicy, it tastes right and smells good. Also, the brand is certified organic, a plus for me.

wild seafood flavor

Lately we have been putting various kinds of flavored seasonings on salmon and other fish, such as bourbon bbq and honey chipotle. This seasoning is very unique and quite spicy. It makes a fine flavoring for fish and of course is designed for seafood boils. It would also be good as a base for soups and stews in the cajun and creole family. At $9 a bottle it is a bit pricy, but it is certainly different and memorable, and we will enjoy using it.

C

tasty

The first time I used this, I did not use it on seafood but rather grassfed beef steak. We have used this brand before so trying this variety was an easy choice, and as with other flavors we have gotten, this one is tasty. For steaks, I poke holes in them and use an apple cider vinegar/avocado oil marinade, then rub an ample amount of this spice into both sides and let it sit from morning until evening, then cook on broil in our air fryer. Steaks to perfection. I would buy any variety of Flavor Seed spice, they all have been just tasty.

A nice alternative to old bay

This is a very ocean filling seasoning, kind of similar to a less spicy old bay. It did really well on some low country boil after I made some. I would only use this after cooking because it's going to basically take the whole container to make a low country boil, but you can sprinkle after cooking and it'll go further. I like the taste of this but to me it'd never replace old bay, but it's a fun one to swap up the palate with.

Tidewater as dry season just better

As a straight seasoning, Tidewater blows away Old Bay. I've been an Old Bay go to girl for a long time so I don't say this lightly. Tidewater has virtually no salt, so it's all spice and organic for better flavor. If you're doing a low boil, you will need to add salt, unlike Old Bay, so taste the broth before you add ingredients. The bottle says half bottle to gallon of water. I used half gallon at about 4 tablespoons (1/3 bottle) seasoning and 2 tablespoons of salt. He was a big fan of the broth, drank it like soup before he even got to the corn. Personally, I needed a lot more salt and sprinkled Tidewater directly on shrimp and pot. Will stick with Old Bay in a low boil, Tidewater going on everything else, a tad more kick with some mild cayenne heat at the end and flavor as a whole is just better.

This Vegetarian Loves This Flavor

I am a vegetarian who does not eat seafood, but I love this flavor. It is a versatile herb/spice, and I use it on many different kinds of foods, soups, pasta, popcorn, veggies, burgers, etc. It adds so much flavor to my meals, and I'm looking forward to experimenting with it in vegetarian recipes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Tidewater and Old Bay?

Tidewater is an organic seafood seasoning with a similar coastal flavor profile, but made with clean, fully transparent ingredients. Unlike blends that rely on proprietary recipes, we list every ingredient – no hidden flavors or mystery blends – so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Can I use Tidewater in a seafood boil?

Absolutely! Use about half a 5 oz pouch per gallon of water. It’s perfect for crab boils, shrimp boils, and Low Country boils. Add extra cayenne if you want more heat.

Is Tidewater spicy?

Not really. It has a mild hint of cayenne to round out the flavor, but it’s not hot or overpowering. Great for families and anyone who prefers bold flavor without the burn.

Why is sea salt not organic?

Sea salt isn't considered "organic" in the USDA sense because it's a mineral, not a product of agriculture, and thus doesn't fit the definition of organic food, which focuses on agricultural practices.

What else can I use Tidewater on besides seafood?

Plenty! It’s delicious on corn, potatoes, chicken, fried fish, and even in seafood salad or as a fry breading. It’s versatile enough to use well beyond the boil pot.
